Will a gar jump out of a pond?

But in the wild are gars know to be jumpers like the arrowanas and arapaimas?

any fish will jump...behavior in captivity is not the same as in the wild, no matter how much we try to replicated it. also keep in mind that arowanas act quite differently than arapaimas do in the wild as well.

in general, a gar will very likely jump out of a pond like the one you have pictured; add to that the issues with tankmates and it's just begging for the fish to end up on the ground next to the setup. i would use some sort of cover or netting to prevent this--

the above was my lfs's experience though nothing happened to the gar as he saved it in time

About 2 years ago my bro caught a gar and brought it home and but it in are 200 Gallon Pond like 3ft deep and it bailed 1 time and almost died I dunno what he did with it (I think he took it back to the wild) but they jump it was like 13"
