Hey all, so I have a question about keeping a normal, everyday Pleco in a tank with the fish as follows:

Soon I will be getting a 125 gallon tank, and in the tank will be:
1x Black Ghost Knife
1x Senegal Bichir
1x Turquoise Severum
2x Striped Raphael’s
5-6x Yo-Yo Loaches (Possibly)
5-5x Silver Dollars (Possibly)

So, I want to know how they will get along. Will he be bullied, picked on, eaten, etc? I used to have a Pleco in a tank with a messy Jaguar Cichlid, but the Cichlid grew quickly and soon ate the Pleco. Would prefer if this did not happen again.

I will have plenty of plants, rocks, logs, and caves he can hide in, so will it be a problem?

If so, are there any other algae eaters/cleaner uppers that I can put in there with no problems?

I can't see any of those fish bothering a common pleco. Just don't buy a really small one. Thing is it might eat your plants.

I would worry about the poly eating the loaches.

Which is a 'poly'? Sorry, not caught up on nicknames too much, is it the Severum?

LOL no. Senegal bichirs IS a nickname it's proper name is
Polypterus senegalus.

Ooh, yea, sorry, lol, not to familiar with thier real names yet either, Yea, the Loaches are a possibility, if i like the looks of my tank with only the BGK, Bichir, Severum, and Pleco, ill keep it that way. Not to keen of loaches now anyway, seeing as they gave ich to my bala sharks i had for 4 months and killed them.

Watch for the pleco sucking the slime coat of the bichir is as well. They don't always do it, but once they start you can't stop them

Wouldnt the Bichir just swim away though? i guess if it starts ill take the pleco and put it in another tank..

I agree. Plecos are suckers for a good slime coat....... Any large slow moving fish will do...

And I wouldn't suggest buying a pleco for algae control... at least not a common. They create an enormous amount of waste and probably create more algae then they can consume.... They put a huge bioload on your system...

Get one because you like the fish....

Any other kind of algea eater you would recomend? Not much time right now to clean the tank very good, i can manage the weekly water change and possibly scrub the walls 1-2 times a month with ym scheduel that way it is, but not much else.

Everyone says cory's re good for cleaning up, but i need something to get the walls and such as well, im not too worried about waste and such, as i just vaccum it up with the water change..

They create an enormous amount of waste because of how much algae they eat, They're excellent at eating algae, but yea they do put quite the bioload on your tank.

Apple snails are very good at eating algae and won't have a problem with your fish as long as you get a large one
