Will a Rainbow Boa strangle me?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The only neck constriction I heard of is when people don't support the boa around their necks when they bend over to do something. So it is not feeding response that cause the reaction to coil around the neck, it is the fear of falling.

Of course, it's a different ball game when you deal with the giant pythons over 12-15 feet.

yup, I agree, but like I said you would have had to rub your neck with a mouse or something and also put your neck right next to the snake, that's all I meant. I've not heard of anything outside the big 4-5 kill someone in captivity before (not that I can think of any examples for those few either).

To be honest you are more likely to be struck by lightning or attacked by a shark or [insert improbable way to die here]. And IMHO although I understand that you are merely suggesting they are capable, it's in all honesty a stupid thing to be talking about especially as a reason to put people off... people don't need silly ideas about snakes... there's enough misguidences about them as there is. It would be like me saying it is possible that when feeding your fish, your fish could jump out the tank and hit you in the eye and blind you.

Pretty much what i was saying about rubbing a mouse on your neck.
Is the topic stupid? IMO no. No question is stupid if it means you learn.
No its not likely it ALMOST certainly will never happen but theres a first for everything..and in theory its possible, but i agree, as i stated a few times...its highly, highly unlikely.

Not sure snakes have fear...more instint. Its already been stated constiction doesn't usually occur round the neck, hences davo saying about rubbing a mouse on his neck,

Thanks for the insight. I got some more money this weekend from my Educational Maintenance Allowance (aka, getting paid for staying on at sixth form), so I'm only £35 away from the money needed for the Boa :) When I raise the money, I'll make sure I have a standard setup ready (Exo Terra Faunarium for now until it's bigger, heatmat, thermometer, hide, water bowl etc.), and make sure the temps are stable. Then, if during my visit to the shop, I can persuade my mum to get the Boa, I will pick up a hydrometer for the humidity, and I have some cocopeat on hand for a more humid substrate. If the Boa is gone, or she still says no, I'll get the snow corn.

Does this sound good?
