Will a RD cross with a Texas?

What I have is a pretty pissed off male RD or Midas. He is about 5 inches and has a big head... This fish could be a hybrid... I just want to breed it with something else... Are my chances not so good? Im very new to breeding... When you say "on the first try" what does that mean??? What size tank is a good breeder for my size fish? I don't want a death...
You need good luck b/c when you put a male and female together, they're just not gonna breed. They have to like each other, so it could take many tries to find a compatible pair. You can put a piece of egg crate in the middle to split them up and put a flat piece of rock or something close to the middle for the female to lay eggs on and the male can still fertilize them through the stuff...
Yeah, they can breed though I am pretty sure thats how you get a red texas. I think you can get texas to breed with a lot of fish.
Do what davey said if you really wanna be safe, buy eggcrate diffuser at a hardware store it should be by the flourescent light section and cut it to fit your tank and stick that in there. Make sure you put it in before you put the fish in to make sure your midas cant knock it over or something.
I would also say to try and get a decent sized female since its going to be intruding on the already established midas territory.

OK thanks alot for the advise... I already have the eggcrate for this exact reason... What size tank do you think is good for breeding... Right now my RD is in a 46bowfront by himself... Is that ok for breeding or no?
probably not, but try it! if you have the divider, go for it.
when I bought my red devil it was in the lfs breeding with about 10 other red devils and pictus catfish in the tank.
that tank was only about 40 MAYBE. and all the red devils were at least 4 inches some even 5 or 6.
so it is possible
