Do you know what sex your sev is?

Is that a jaguar cichlid you have in your tank with severums in your avatar picture? I didn't think that mix would work. I always thought that jags were too aggressive for severums.

Nope. That's my 3" Electric Blue Jack Dempsey. He's perfectly fine in there with my Severums!

How can I tell the difference between the two sexes?

The males have more pointed fins (dorsal and anal). Females are more rounded. Males have worming on the face, more colorful.

The first pic is my biggest male. The second pic is my largest female. Hope this helps!

How large do they grow? Will that fish work with my setup long term?

EBJDs are a lot more mild-mannered than the normal JDs. They're nice together. They get to around 6-8" or so. Only thing difficult about these guys is finding ones with good genes. Their gene pool is so used up and weak that it's hard to find ones that survive past 3" or so. Even more difficult to find ones that won't grow out with deformities if they survive. I love mine in there together. No one picks on anyone else in my tank. The colors work well together, too.

EBJDs are very sensitive to disease and shock. So definitely be sure to take good care and precaution with them should you decide to get one. I'd lost two of the three I had originally bought together just from poor genetics.

I definitely say go for it if you can locate any! Well worth the risk, if you ask me. :naughty:
