I've always been very, very cautious not to contaminate my big tank with snails from the planted tank, but ... would they eat them? Just regular snails, not mts or anything. I was kindof thinking about a tank in the future with a bed of vallisneria on one end - like you might find in Lake Malawi - and I was thinking about the passengers that might come on a fresh clump of vals. I know you can "bleach" them, just wondering.

There are a number of species from Malawi known as snail crushers, many are thrown into the Hap clade
Trematocranus placodon is a known snail crusher.
Metriaclima lanisticola is another good candidate.
Whether or not predominantly vegetarians like mbuna will go for them any major way, is different story.

Many loach species will get along with mbuna, and loaches are voracious snail eaters. Of course this would make it no longer a true biotope (so don’t get loaches if that is what you are going for).

It is a peacock and hap tank, but no trematocranus or metriaclima.
I'll just keep them out then. And be glad I didn't experiment when I got the itch.

Thanks for the info
