Looking for a fish to perform clean up duties in my 10 gallon planted. It's got water wisteria, java moss, and a java fern. Hair algae bushes have developed on the gravel and are starting to form on the walls of the tank. I need a hungry herbivore that will decimate the hair algae but have a minimal adverse impact on the other plants. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

snails might work

nothing eats it. some plants are immune to it but its really hard to get rid of.

i get rid of it manually with some air tubing and siphoning through it and just scrap it off leaves with the tubing if u need to upgrade to a larger siphon mattering on how well adhered the algae is! works great for most stringy algae

I had the beginning of a hair algae problem and started dosing Flourish Excel per advice I found on here and other forums. It's been about 1 1/2 weeks and the algae is subsiding. Don't know if it will work for you but it's worth a shot.

Feeder comets. You don't even really have to supplement with flake or pellets until it is all gone. I know they will destroy the algae... I also know that they will not touch java moss and java fern. I never had wisteria.

FLOURISH EXCEL!

I had real bad algae and Wyldfya recommended Excel. BAH, I thought, I already have CO2, why use Excel?!? WAS I WRONG! I turned up my CO2 output, but the hair aglae got worse and worse. I then bought the big bottle of Excel ($53 after tax) from an lfs and dosed the recommended dose. In 3ish days, all of my plants had grown considerably, and the hair algae turned orange and started dying off. I have kept dosing with excel, and while the hair algae has never gone completely away, there is very little of it left in the tank (it has been 15 days now since I started using Excel). My CO2 tank ran out last week, so I upped the dose of Excel, and the plants are doing better than they have ever done.

my Simese algea eaters love it

i also here that goldfish, platys, mollies, and swordtails work.

Amazing what excel does even in tanks with CO2 injection isn't it? I couldn't believe the results myself the first time I used it, thought the guy that informed me of it was nuts (probably what you thought of me) then I tried it. That was the end of a house without flourish excel for me. :D
