i also here that goldfish, platys, mollies, and swordtails work.
I've tried platies and mollies, and neither has worked for me. Others have reported amazing results. I think it comes down to the individual fish, and what you are feeding.

I've heard of some fish that eat hair algae. I think it's a Siamese Flying Fox (I think that's the name...it's been awhile).

Florida Flag Fish aka American flag fish eat it up........

Good luck finding some this time of year!

Thanks, I've seen American flag fish in Feeders Supply back in Louisville. I have guppies and platys in the tank now, and their doing nothing to the algae. Would oto cats work?

as much as i hate them, get a couple gold fish and dont feed them, i had some serious string in my 20 wide and the two golds ate it up (after a couple days of flake free living). they prolly ate about 3/4 of it, then i fed them to the red belly!

good luck dude

I say leave the algae... I always find it quite attractive... and its usually a sign of good water quality...

If you had a saltwater tank tangs will eat that up especally convicts, as for freshwater tropheus moori or the other tropheus will gobble it up but, they will eat all your plants too. Grass shrimp will feed on it alittle in provided with nothing else.

Amazing what excel does even in tanks with CO2 injection isn't it? I couldn't believe the results myself the first time I used it, thought the guy that informed me of it was nuts (probably what you thought of me) then I tried it. That was the end of a house without flourish excel for me. :D

I couldn't believe what it did for my tank. I don't have CO2, and the first day I dosed it everything in my tank was pearling like crazy, even my java moss. Since I've been using it plant growth has really took off. Also, like I said before most of my hair algae is gone or going.
