I've got three geophagus in a tank and two of them are altifrons and one is a red hump. The red hump and one altifrons spend a lot of time swimming together and sometimes being aggressive(the red hump goes crazy with his mouth occasionally, apparently trying to look threatening) and I'm wondering if it's some kind of breeding behavior or if maybe they're both males and they're picking on each other. The other altifrons pretty much hangs out by itself.

Anyway, is it even possible for altifrons to breed with red humps? What do you guys think is going on?

No one is sure!
Could be but then again maybe not.

What people want are photos.
This will give people an idea of whether it is aggressive or courtship behaviour.
It will also tell people about the sex of the fish incase u've made a forgivable error in your sexing.

Upload some photos if u can friend.

And as for the interbreeding? They probably could if conditions encouraged it.

There is no way they will cross-breed. Steindachneri shouldn't even be in the same genus as altifrons, they aren't very closely related.

There was a thread a while back about the fact that Geos don't tend to hybridize, even among closely related species.
