The story: 14" widebar was getting punked a little by my other fish so put him in my 75g.. my bad luck one of the hoses on the canister filter popped off while I was sleeping, almost all of the water drained out of the tank. He was laying sideways in about 5" of water when I saved him.

Moved him while I refilled the tank. Now he's just laying on his side at the bottom. I actually propped him up for a long time, and let go and he sat there for a little. And if I scare him or move him to the side with the net he'll kinda sit upright. But then goes to his side.

Will he survive you think? He's NOT swimming upside down, or even having to swim on his side. So I don't think he's damaged that bad. Is he just freaked out? Anyone have a dat in similar condition recover?

I'm praying he pulls through.. but wanted to get the odds, or any assistance anyone has to give.

sorry to hear your day is not going well:{

your dat sounds like he has a good chance.

70 gallons of water on the floor must really be a mess as well.

your day can only get better:}Good luck.

I hope everything works out. Water on the floor and a freaked out fish...damn. Like hotfish said, It's got to get better. I put in a good word for the widebar.:)

sorry to hear Kevin. You need to get him bagged and put into my tank ASAP!!
j/k...I've had dats pull thru in worst situation. Keep him isolated, water clean, lights off. Id keep the temp up as well and salt wouldn't hurt either. I think the key will be keeping himm stress free. Id eliminate feeding for a few days and see if you get a feeding response in a few days. Good luck bro!

Forgot to ask, how do his eyes look? Keep a close watch on how vibrant his eyes are or start to become its a good sign of recovery IME.

I agree with islander...in my expriences with dats; their a very strong hardy fish. I'd do what islander said. GL luck; hope it makes it; would be a shame; 14" ST would be a heck of a loss.

Am I looking for "life" in his eyes?

He's pretty much stress free at the moment. No one to pick on him, no lights, and won't feed him for a few days of course. I just need him to sit upright on his own and I'll be worry free. I can nurse him from there.

He's got some power left as I tried to prop him up against the glass with a net and he swam away..

Thanks.. that's what I'll try and do then.. Really not much I can do I guess other than common sense stuff.

Its hard to explain what to look for in his eyes, if they look aware and not dulled its usually a good sign. It sounds like he will be Okay. And i know he is in good hands. He'll keep himself upright one hes ready.

also put some screw clamps on those hoses.... some extra precaution.... he should be fine this guy is a trooper....

it's an old old fluval.. the kinda that uses the plastic fitting/clamps that you screw onto the hose at like 100 different places.... actually threw it out because I don't trust it anymore.
