Will his tail improve over time/with age?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks guys.

I think maybe your right that's the top and bottom will always be a bit thicker but I don't mind that at all. Earlier on I was hoping for a nice thick seam like the ones I have seen on Google images.

Seems to be going in the right direction and I am really liking how he is developing.

I will do another update in like 3 months and see what has changed then.

Thanks mrse88,

It's been really rewarding taking care of Kai. He is growing at a great rate and coloring up just as I have hoped.

While the growing out process is slow, especially with the green terror cichlids, the change that happens right before your eyes makes it worth it.

for starters, the only way we'd be able to determine what his tail band could look like is to get a better look at his lineage from both mother and father... which I think goes out the window for just about everyone in the hobby hahahah

regardless, philipraposo1982 philipraposo1982 ... when's the last time you saw your Riv flare up? My white saum has a similar pattern with the band on his tail fin, but when he flares up and shows off for a female everything appears to be much more even. Don't forget that many of the rays in in the fins are compressed when they are casually swimming around, which could/would give the appearance that the band is thicker on the top or bottom as there are more compressed rays and more color that is naturally closer to the body of the fish (due to the shape of the fin). Does that make sense? one of those things where I know what I'm trying to say, but providing visuals and pointing at something saying "this is what I'm talking about" would really help

either way, Kai is looking great!

Yeah he was a pet store buy so I have no clue who the parents are.

As for the flare up tail fin. I see this all the time as he is a glass banger when the mood is right. Its most definitely thicker on the tops and bottoms but not by as much as it shows in most photos.

Like a few have said it adds character. I always wanted for him to have a nice thick seam and it looks like he is well on his way to having a bold one.

Thanks Amph.
