Most cichlids in the lakes have a territory that they stake out all my reading on Umbees and Dovii suggests that they Cruise around looking for other cichlids to eat. When that Umbee gets full size your red devil will most likely look like lunch. I would agree that the more similar the size of the fish the more the Devil would gain the upper hand. In the end it is all a gamble on the temperament of the individual fish you get IMO.
If you get it to work make sure to tell us then you can be "the Guy" that kept a full grown male umbee and devil together![]()
Haha, sure thing.
I don't mean to stray off topic, but now that you mention Doviis I was wondering is it possible for a, say, full-grown Umbee and a full-grown Dovii to coexist in a large enough tank? And are they the two largest cichlids? (Because I know both species can grow over 20".)
In case no one else said it start VERY small for best results
