Will I Be Able to Keep a 12" Midas Together With a 12" Umbee?

I don't mean to stray off topic, but now that you mention Doviis I was wondering is it possible for a, say, full-grown Umbee and a full-grown Dovii to coexist in a large enough tank? And are they the two largest cichlids? (Because I know both species can grow over 20".)
 
I think one cichlid (emporer) gets bigger but I am not for sure on that. It may work for a Dovii and umbee to be together in a large enough tank but if they did not like eachother you would have major issues.
 
it would have to be huge i would go with a 180 or 265 that would be sweet adn with some dithers to ocuupy them...
 
if you want to keep a male dovii and a male umbee together, you're gonna need a 1000 or more gallon tank or pond. you're talking about 2 very large (24" or more potential for umbee and 30" or more potential for dovii), highly aggressive and super territorial fish. both of these species have been known to dominate 300-500 gallon tanks without allowing tankmates.

there are a couple species of cichlid that grow larger than dovii. one is the Emperor cichlid (Boulengerochromis microlepis) as has already been mentioned as well as at least one species of Peacock bass (Cichla temensis). :thumbsup:

One 150 gallon aquarium wouldn’t even come close. I would just forget about keeping the umbee with other fish unless you have a 1000+ gallon tank. Umbees and Dovii are killers. One of the things I love is listening to people tell stories about their umbees killings. :naughty:
