Will live blood worms cause nitrates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know its good practice to remove any uneaten food. But what if the food was alive. I feed live blood worms every once and a while. If i leave a large uneaten pile will it throw my water quality off?

They will die either way

Do you mean live black worms? Blood worms like the frozen variety is mosquito larva. Any food will make water changes, but it wont be anything to worry about. I feed live black worms to my clown loaches, and any survivors just live int he substrate til they are hunted down.

The store i buy them from calls them blood worms but that dosent mean much. I guess they dont look like the frozen version of blood worms so they might be black worms.

I was asking because i didnt think i had to take out the uneaten ones after a feeding.
