Will My Catfish Eat The Babies?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh no.... does anybody else agree they will probably kill the catfish?

Quite possibly. If convicts grew over a foot long, Dovii and Umbee would be knocked down a peg as the most aggressive cichlids. I don't think moving the babies will do much for the catfish.

Removing the eggs doesn't stop parental aggression immediately it does after a while but not soon enough if they decide the catfish is a threat

Awww mr.catfish just came out of hiding. The male attacked him full speed and he is injured.... he is hiding about an inch from the babies. The convicts don't see oh their chasing him full speed oh sand is flying everywhere he's been cornered. flaring flaring flaring, closing in for the kill. Race for the net grabbed the catfish and decided it was my precious baby catfish or everything in my 20g high. So I tossed the catfish in my planted tetra tank.... with cories, tetras, guppies, killifish, german ram, and danio. And I fully expect to see a fat catfish by morning.
Good night.

Wow what a night you are having... Well now you see that convicts are really really aggressive fish... I threw a baby convict in our koi pond at work with pacu, koi, pbass, large id sharks, and a large red devil. He is still in there 5 months later and is 3 or 4" long now. They could survive the apocalypse with cockroaches and Twinkies no lie.

Hope all is better today for you guys. I miss my lil bumblebee catfish, but I imagine he was a healthy snack for my other fish. :) Be nice to get another one for my little cat tank I got going right now lol.
