Will my fish's fins grow back normal? (pic)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just get a 20L off of craigslist. Get a heater and sponge filter. Put the sponge filter in the main tank for a week to seed it and drop it in the 20L. Voila! instant hospital tank.

Its not a matter of having the stuff....I have tanks...wetdrys...filters galore. Jot no place to set one up. I am about to try to set one up in my office...just need to ask the boss.

I have already had to dose the whole tank. It does take a lot more meds. I have plenty spots in my garage but it gets in the 90's if not more during a summer day and I would guess thats too hot.

you have really beautiful africans..

so if setting up a hospital tank just isnt feasable, just keep your water pristine, melafix and aquarium salt to keep any bacterial and fungal issues at bay and make sure there are tons of hiding spots-its all you can really do..

the lip should heal ok-africans lip lock alot, and it usually heals if he will let it..

I run salt in the tank all the time. The fins on the mylochromis seem to be getting better slightly...im not so worried about that one making it....just dont want crooked fins.

The Johnstoni tho I am worrying about that one. That lip was bad from the petstore but I have seen my acaei giving him hell and now his upper lip looks like its gone. Like I can see the teeth left beding under a lip thats not there. He tries to eat but spits the food out if its hard (NLS).

So can the actual lip grow back or just the skin.

hey, did you visit 50 fathoms? i passed on both of those fish when i was there. Good water quality will make those fins grow back fast.

lol yep they both came from 50. They had 2 mylochromis there. I had not seen them before...but it sure is a good looking fish. The fins are growing back in nicely. I just worry about the lip on the Johnstoni. The upper lip is gone...I can see the teeth...do the lips grow back or will it always have a odd face now.

I had a p. bleekeri get the hell beat out of it by a group of c. moorii. It was so bad the fish was lying upside down on the substrate with no dorsal or caudal fins to speak of. I moved the c. moorii to another tank and three months on the fish I thought was toast for sure is healthy as a horse with finnage fully restored if still a bit shorter than it would otherwise be. Best bet is to keep your water VERY clean, 15% water changes every other day would be good. You can also add some supplements with trace minerals or find a product with aloe vera to help speed along the healing process although I only did the water changes and it worked great.

The fins on the fish are growing back nicely. Its the lip now I am worried about on the Johnstoni. You can see what im looking at in this pic. His upper lip is gone now...so do they regrow lips like the fins???
