Will my floor hold?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the replys guys.

I just had a better look at the floor and it is block and beam and they run away from the wall i was gonna put the tank on:nilly:

So ill be posting pics soon haha

keep in mind that the 150 pounds per square foot is likely not correct.

because this assumes full contact between the surface area of the tank and the floor, which there seldom ever is.

its only the actual contact of your stand and the floor that you use to do the math because the contact area of your stand is what is transferring the full weight to the floor..

Soooo....???

Can i not put a piece of wood flooring underneath it?

Will this distribute the Weight?

Also got a Datnoid today to put in the 100g for the 150 haha.

Wow that was quite the read.

So i should be able to get my 6 foot tank across 4 joists.

This would ease the load quite a bit, also i now know that it may take time for my tank to cave my floor in and im not staying here long.

I should only be here around another nine months, and assuming my tanks weight is split by four beams thats only 150 ltrs on each beam.

All i need to know is that it wont cave in straight away lol

Out of all the aquarium horror stories I have ever heard I have NEVER heard of one going through a floor. Even massive tanks in old houses with relatively weak floors. People have water beds, massive gun safes, parties with a bunch of fat people, floors are made to handle WAY more than they ever will. If it makes you feel better talk to the landlord, hire an engineer, whatever you want to do. But you could never even think about it (think about all the idiots who don't) and it wouldn't be an issue.
