will my heater burn through my sump?

just used some rocks to hold on the heater so the slate is in my tank as a cave. temp is set at 78. tank has been from 70 to somedays depending on how hot the wood stove is to 78 so i just set the heater to 78

Will slate affect the pH?

Only a concern if you need softwater.

Good question but I'd guess that the ammount needed as a platform for the heater should'nt alter the chemistry of the water very much.
