Hey MFK

Am going to DIY a plywood tank soon. Its going to be approx 270GAL. Its going to be housing gars.
Am now designing a PVC overflow. Am also wondering will it work if i just go with a surface skimmer? Please give me better ideas if you guy have any!

Thanks MFK

It will work, but it may not be all that effective. The water level will stay at the same level as where the tube goes through the back. You would have to redesign it to get the water level higher.

All the water will flow thru the bottom pipe in the tank , not the surface. Just use the surface skimmer without the bottom pipe. if that makes sense.

No it won't. I'd go with one or the other. This design does incorporate a bit of a safety measure should the bottom intake become clogged, the top would take over.

Personally, I'd go with a surface skimmer design and just adjust the flow so that dirt and debris gets forced into the overflow.
