My tap water comes out between 6.8 -7. I know that madagascans like higher pH, but will they be okay in a more neutral to acidic water?

They should be fine. You can add a little buffer when you do water changes to raise it if needed but I don't htink that is neccessary.

Thank You Jgentry! I'll be moving my maculatus into a 90g in a couple of weeks and I didn''t want to have to remove all of the substrate I already have in there for crushed coral.

There have been several breeding reports of menerambo in softish water with neutral ph so I think you will be fine. My Maculatus have been very tough and durable, they do not seem to care much as long as the water is clean.

They adapt well... I would bump it up so they feel more comfortable.. Might help with color too..
