Take it easy, it was only two days after the first sign of trouble that his eyes went missing. It's not like I left him in there knowing he was going to get mutilated. One day he was fine, the next day his fins were torn up, and the next day he had no eyes. They were compatable enough for two months. You live and learn. I'm searching for a more cichlid friendly scavenger (maybe a bristlenose pleco?). Any suggestions on that end?

The plecos should live a happy life in the 10 gallon I'm putting him in. The kenyi is going to be traded to my cichlid store. I only took him in from my sister-in-law because she was going to cull it (for too much chasing). I figured me giving him a shot was better than her flushing him. I gave it the old college try and it didn't work out.

And thanks for the welcome.;)

I would quarentine the pleco in the 10 gal with higher temps, salt and melafix.
Trade the african for a SA(Geo etc) and add the pleco back to the tank when he's healed. You know how big common pleco's get right? with the right diet and water conditions he will out grow the 10 gal in no time...

my pleco has no eyes and does well. just be careful the fish dont finish him off. blind fish dont know day/night and cant hide when they need to

A small update...

I got rid of the murderous offender (traded the kenyi for a zebra obliquidens). All my fish are happier because of it. The plecos' fins are growing back nicely and I've put him back in the 54 corner tank. None of the other africans bother him, it was only the kenyi.

He seems to be doing fine and none the worse for wear (except for the missing eyes). Thanks for all the advice and I'll let you know how he's doing from time to time.:)
