Will my RTC survive in non heated water until Monday

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Had my 17" RTC in the garage stock tank with no heat for 2 days and he didn't take it well. Had to risk putting him in with the flowerhorns. Surprisingly he don't care for the flowerhorns at all, smallest one is 2 inch.

Have you thought about trying to insulate the holding tank in some way ? Even wrapping it in blankets would help a little with heat loss , I may sound crazy but sure it would help your situation, hope he's ok im sure he will be , what sort of temp is it outside the tank ?

So he will be fine until Monday or Thursday?? And will do on the water changes

Keep him in the heated 60 until you can properly heat the garage tank. Do not risk him in cold water. Like I said just stay on top of water changes as he will dirty that water at least 3x faster then the 180

Hello; In the past I have made a holder for heaters from clothes hanger wire. I would make a loop in the wire that the glass tube would fit into and use the long ends of the wire for fastening the heater to the side of a container. This has been handy for buckets and other odd containers and allowed for the heater to sit deep enough in the water. These were the hang on the side type heaters.
Go to the walmart website and check for other stores in the area. There are four within 50 miles of me, one caries fish and supplies. Another carries only tank supplies and the rest nothing.

Hello; I also like to have two heaters on my larger tanks. That way if one fails the other can usually keep things warm enough.

Is it possible to put him in the bathtub? At least here, you can constantly and easily add warm water.

He is in the 60 doing great looks kind of weird for a 2 foot RTC to be in a 60 he will just have to stay in there till the heaters arrive I've ordered 4 500watt heaters and that should do the trick I will keep you guys posted ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1389201230.723165.jpg

RTCs will not handle the temps less than ~64-62 F well. I think they will perish at below 60 F in hours-to-days.
