The span of joists between the foundation to the right and the I-beam to the left is about 10 feet.

If you can get one end of the tank over the beam and support the other end well you should be fine long term.

What is an acro?
Here is a link to one on ebay going cheap.

It is simply a steel support for removing lintels, supporting walls etc, you can leave it in place as long as you like.

Put a big chunk or wood at the top and bottom to spread the weight and screw it tight while there is no load on the beam.

You can also bolt them in place.

No your tank will not fall through the floor
the stresses applied to the aquarium itself
will ultimately cause the aquarium to fail
long before the floor will give way

Leave it to this guy to make some absurd claim in every thread about something he knows nothing about.. :screwy:

The "Acro" you guys are referring to is called a post shore. They are mostly used for holding concrete forms in place for large concrete structures.

With such easy access to the joists, I would totally reinforce it.

I have a similar situation but I need to reinforce for a 210g and have to do it in a crawlspace.

same, if theres room to do some jackin up, do it, you will sleep at night. get the blue floor jacks at lowes, i think i paid 60$ or so for a 6ft one..i could be wrong..maybe 70-80$ but just to keep from sagging. if you were to see my house, you would think yours is a concrete foundation! i had a coal mine collapse underneath, causing the house to shift real bad, plus the house is 60+ years old..but my 125 is probably 2000lbs with my stand being about 300lbs, the floor hasnt buged :D it could be the quality of lumber they used back then also, but i just jacked one unsupported joist and good to go! (on 1st floor, over basment)

basing my answer on the number of "will my floor hold" divided by how many "help, my tank just fell through my floor" threads there are my spontanious answer is.. yes, your floor will hold!

i would use some kind of support (4x4 post, jack, or whatever) just make sure you reinforce the floor before you put water in the tank and not after the floor is already loaded

Haha that's a good one.....I've NEVER seen a thread about a tank falling through a floor...I think people don't give their houses enough credit...I have a 125 running PARALLEL to the joists and it's only on one joist! It is on a load bearing wall, however, but I've had zero problems so far in close to a year

They don't tend to fall through floors, they tend to sag them. This is bad also.

This kind of speaks for itself, yours is effectively sat on a supporting wall so the joist is not taking the weight.

I think we don't see any falling through the floor threads because anyone with any sense at all would remove the tank once the floor began to sag.
