Will my UV kill my BB in a bottle?

Supposedly spores in a state of suspension.

I still prefer the "holy crap everything is about to die!!" water changes, gives me an excuse for some frantic excercise with running up and down stairs with buckets.

Exactly ... spores in a state of suspension :) And it does work. BrianP is one of the people I trust the most on this site he reccomended it and it worked for him and me and greenearthlawns and others. Ask around I have not heard one person that ACTUALL TRIED the formula that did not have it work.

I tried it twice and had no results. I would add it and check param's and add again and again and etc and etc. Until it finally settled in a matter of a few weeks. So that is no different than a cycle to me. On my last set up I used safe start by aquasafe. I added it the second day when I had 2ppm of ammonia and 12 hours later the ammonia was zero. I had nitrites for a week and now nothing. Thats a 125g tank fully stocked and ammonia cycled in 12 hours and fully in one week. The safe start does have a short shelf life so look on the bottle for the date. Get it and you will not be disappointed. And you will not have to dose daily etheir.

Sounds good. Thanks for the heads up. Stability really kicks in about 24 hours after first use. And is forging ahead full swing after 48 hours :D. Just my personal experience with it however. I test my water during mini cycles and for 3 weeks after every day with an api liquid test kit. My 20 gallon fry tank was cycled with it and has stayed that way for a month and a half now.

says on bottle to turn off UV/ ozone
Read the thread. I noticed that see my post above :) This thread has now moved in to the time zone of "which bacteria in a bottle if any works" debate.

Oh I see, sorry. I am a believer in stability. I had a crisis last week and was using stability along with prime and water changes. It was an established aquarium that I thought had a bacteria crash. I was getting high ammonia levels after introducing several wild caught fronts. I dosed stability as if it was a new tank and had a huge bacteria bloom after a week of use.

If I were to do it again I would pay maybe less attention to the ammonia test readings I was getting because I think prime will throw those off. I think the added unnesessary water changes threw my tank into a mini cycle, but all is better now and my water is clear and I had no deaths. My lesson was dose a new tank per directions on label and if you accidently overstock your tank like I did, use sparingly and watch your fish for any signs on distress.

Yes water tested with ammonia does not take in to account ammonia that has been locked up by prime. Although I had clear water just ammonia readings so god only knows besides adding a few fish too soon what happened. Did you try running carbon ? I know that is a dumb question but im wondering if it would help in this kind of a situation.

Also the ammonia kits made by seachem actually measure the ammonia that is harmful in the water and not the ammonia that has been locked up

See here http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/MT_Ammonia.html

Sound advice on the mini cycle side I am not dosing the stability as if it were a new tank just half dosing it and using prime like you did to keep the ammonia non toxic. Today my ammonia is back to 0 I just tested it.
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20 (As always)
API liquid test kit.

I didnt try the seachem ammonia test, I used the API master kit and even tried some strips made by jungle. I think I have a lot of chloramine in my tap so when used with Prime and these test kits I believe I will always get a false high. I have heard the seachem tests for free ammonia and it would be interesting to see what levels it reads. I did a test last night and my ammonia is still high on the API (like 4ppm) but my water is clear and my fish are hungry and had 2 spawns last week. So basically I am just going to throw the ammonia results out the window and just watch my fish closely. I also think that the bound ammonium left by the Prime must take a lot longer to break down than the free ammonia and maybe that is why I am still getting these crazy ammonia readings.

i was always told to turn off UV lights and leave them off for like 48hrs after......i've heard of a BB product called Turbo Start works really well.
