Since I got into fish keeping I have always kept Plecos based on that idea that they help the tank stay clean from food leftovers and all.

I decided to test that whole 'they **** more then they eat theory" and removed a Pleco from my 30 gallon. Now it has been a week and I was doing the water change today and there is virtually no ****!

I am getting rid of the other two Pleco's tomorrow morning!

Ummm, that seems a little bassackwards to me. If there was virtually no feces, it would seem that the Plecs are doing a pretty good job of eliminating the detritus and not fouling the water. Or maybe they pulled a Bear Grills on you and ate their own poop

But either way, you are going to need something in the tank to clean up the bottom are you not? So why get rid of the Plecs? I mean if your aqua-system is healthy right now why screw with it.

Yeah, some Plecs are ugly (or rather not eye catching) but they evolved to fill a certain need in nature and just so happens their's was as the garbageman.

I love my plecos but most of em are lazy buggers.
Only my 10" Hypostomus cleans the whole tank on it's own.
Plus they eat more than one zuchinni a week....
Next to tha algae tabs and wafers...
Men, I had to buy Huge bags to keep up.
But I don't mind cleaning up after them!

i got 7 plecs atm....but i do plan on adding more...i love love love plecs!!!

Well I had a stupid idea that having lots of plecos in one tank would be a great idea. Lots of wood, large gravel etc. a year or so on from the setup, I'm growing out a GG in the same tank.

Needless to say I enjoy cleaning it, every other day, but I still love the tank and the fish in it, especially once the lights go out and the fish come out to play.
