I just bought 5 packets of Okiko Crystal Red for £25 + £3 postage (£28)

I want to make him really red, or as red as possible, i know people have said that the Kok enhancers are fake and don't work, not sure about this stuff, i don't really like big kok anyway and prefer the colours.

Have i waisted my money? will it work? etc

I'm thinking you kind of went about this backwards... Since you already bought the food, you might as well make this a progression thread and show us if it works or not. I don't have any knowledge of this food so I can't speak on it. But as far as KOK enhancing food... I don't believe they can work either. I believe its all in the fish. Not necessarily the genes because sibblings can grow different sized koks or not grow one at all.

A varied diet and excellent water quality will make him all he can be. A black background wouldn't hurt either. Although some people say a dark background and black substrate can make them go darker as well. I haven't tried any of the special food but love to see if it does anything. Nice looking flowerhorn by the way.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'backwards' i didnt buy him until he was 6" already, hes only just 7" now, hes pretty red, just not vibrant red, so yeh i will post some pics up after i have fed him on this stuff for a month or so.

I said backwards because you already purchased the food. I would have asked about the food before it was purchased... But that's just me. Sorry for the cofusion and Rex is a very good looking flowerhorn even if he doesn't get more red.

I have used that food before. My prior flowerhorn ate 3 bags of that which I purchased in Thailand. He didn't live past 3 years which to me seems short but im unsure if thats reg lifespan or shortened by additives(super color enhancing foods). He was fed that and other color enhanced type foods only. On the upside he was super bright. You fish looks good btw. Nice pickup.

Also I measured him today, he is 20 centimetres = 7.87401575 inches (including Tail) 16.5 centimetres = 6.49606299 inches (without tail) about 1.5-2" bigger than when i got him on April the 9th 2013!!
