I finally got my cyano under control. Nitrates read zero last I checked, which means that my plants are really doing their job. Unfortunately, it also means they won’t have enough nutrients. Some of my Javas are already suffering (likely also due to algae).
Lots of other algae’s are appearing, so it would be nice to have something that helps me to eat it up. Otos seem like the best due to them not eating plants and a relatively low bioload.
I have sourced my high phosphates (cause of the cyano) to lots of decaying plant matter from places I couldn’t reach and melted Val. Still some stuff I couldn’t get to (and I’d like to have something cleaning up anything as it comes) and the tank doesn’t have any herbivores.
Would otos eat decaying plant matter or are they strictly algae eaters?

When I had mine, they would only eat algae. Depends on the tankmates, you could probably try cherry shrimps(if those are too small) or amano shrimps. Mollies might eat decaying plant matter and are excellent algae eaters especially hair algae.

I’d love to do shrimps, but it’s a puffer tank...
How are molly bioload? I’m definitely open to trying one. Also, do they mess with the live plants, I’ve read they may?
