i once had a pair of oscars when younger. the male was a good 13 to 14' and the female close behind. i LOVED these fish , but i had them in a 125 and i couldnt put anything with an attitude in there or the female would just get brutalized. i tried a 5" texas and the male kept him busy for a while, but in a week oe=r so he ended up trying to jack the female. so after i removed him, i got a 6" green terror. same situation. eventually i got an RTc and decided that as soon as he was big enough to not be eaten hed go in with the oscars. well after 4 months he was 14" and mean as hell. so one night i hear splashing all over the place in my tank. well the oscars had finally laid eggs and the phuckin red tail attempted to eat the eggs. well apparently the female met her match again. when the lights came on the male was guarding the eggs and the female was hanging out the rtc's mouth. he eventually let go of her head, but it did take its toll on her. if i wouldnt have beat him with a net she would probably have died. the rtc was gone the next day, and then i decided like a week later that the oscars would just be better off with someone who didnt like mean fish. oscars are cool. i will own some again one day. but not till i decide that im ok with non aggressive species.
