will the other fishes eat the babies?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i figured out something today while doing a water change and a filter rinse. if the other fish dont eat the babies the filter will lol. but i have a nursery tank im just worried about the fish while there in there before i get them out.

Put mama in the nursery before, then the fry are in the safe filter tank ...

If there are edible fry in there still, put her in a breeder net in the nusery.
If there are lil ones big enough to eat the new fry then thy need to be moved go a grow tank.

I have a bigger tank for growing fry before the get adopted... the 46g bow in my tanks setup..

When momma gets fat and has a clear/black Opaque "butt"
usually after a water cycle mine drop more often:confused: so when you put her in the nursery tank she should soon after. I put alot of Java Moss(bottom) and floating plants(weeds) like duckweed since the babies either hide high or low.
(they are feeders as are the ghost shrimp that breeb in the same tank (55 gallon)

the only thing that ever ate my guppy babies were the mollies, but i didn't really care since the babies were just a population nuisance. but yes, plenty of cover, and feed the other fish a lot and they won't be so hungry for babies. female guppies look about ready to pop before they have their babies. so put her in a different tank when she looks huge. when she all of a sudden looks thinner, or if you actually see the babies in there, remove mom. it's much easier to move mom than to catch those miniscule fry. i've had guppies survive in havily populated tanks before, simply because there were enough places to hide...

eventually the guppy fry will be raised to be feeders for my future monsters :) im just trying to get good at it now so i can have a good breeding colony so i can have good disease free feeders instead of buying them.
