Will the 'Real' GT please stand, uh, up.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it would be great if somebody could put together a bunch of pics and labeling them gold saum, silver saum, so on and so forth. I saw somebody do that with dats. It was extremely helpful.

For future reference, since I live stateside, if I ever say GT, I'm refereing to the "gold saum" series of "gt's" as they're far more common and are generally what's laying about at LFSs.

I'm assuming this is generally true for everyone right? (I feel like I'm gonna get flamed/made to look a fool on this one).

True for me. I've never seen the real GT nor silversaum in person. Only GTs I see are the goldsaum/royal GT.

I realize the Real GT is a separate species, is the silversaum and goldsaum the same species with color morphs? or are they separate as well making 3 species of GT?

I'm curious as to what makes them different species. I mean, if I didn't know better, I'd say they're just different morphs.

I don't think that picture in the middle is a real GT. There is a recent thread talks about the difference between GT variant and a real GT. The one in the middle comes from Ecuador while the real GT comes from Peru.

Don't worry I've got your back.

I call them GTs...... if some one gets a "real" GT then they can call it a "real GT"...

:screwy: This is getting more confusing because according to th Dichlid Forum the "goldsaum and the Rivulatus are the 'False GT's and the 'Silversaum' is the "Real" one. BUT the picture in the middle here is the Rivulatus which here is labled 'Real ' and the bottom on is labled simply "silversaum" .

I believe if the offspring of the variants can produce virile offspring most of the time, it is the same species. If the offspring are mostly sterile, or one sex is, or something weird like that, they are separate species.

Scientists, correct me if I'm wrong.

let's call them all green terrors because that's what they are. they are ballzy fish with green "warpaint" on their faces and they will scrap with anything that gets in their way. I love em to death.
