Will the tail grow back?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to hear. I am in the same shoes of live and learn.

It looks like not only the entire fin is missing but a part or even all of the caudal peduncle too. There is likely no way anything will grow back. If some vertebra were bitten off too, the fish is actually in mortal danger as it may or may not live IME.

I "rescued" a crippled bristlenose with half a tail and right pec fin. He could only drag himself along with his lips. He's got enough grown back to swim sideways now so I feel pretty good.

Had the tail bitten off my male fossil catfish when he was smaller but he gets about fine and the female loves him just the same!I
just need to cater for it and if he makes it through, don't keep him with anything too boistrous.

So far no fungus or anything looking like an infection on the area. Keep up the good work.
