so do you think selling one dempsey than seeing how it is going would be a good idea? and if stuff doesnt clear up than sell the other one? i was told that 2 females would be really peacefull and not fight when i bought them:( guess petsmart lied about another thing, yet another reason i only buy crickets from them now...

Sorry, but that ones on you - not on Pet Smart.

A) Know your fish before you go shopping. There's a world of information right at your fingertips. Research first, buy second. (Two dempseys in a 30 was never going to work.)

B) Dempseys are listed as "aggressive" AND "territorial". If you don't want them to be aggressive, and attack everything they come in contact with, don't get them.

C) Don't assume you'll be the one person that ends up with the worlds most peaceful aggressive cichlid.

They are what they are. Aggressive, territorial fish.

If they get into a bigger tank and they are both males, their might be a little bit of fighting here and there but if they are male and female the will mate when big enough. And if they are both females they will stop, im 95% sure lol. good luck!

when i got the dempseys i knew i was getting a bigger tank. the tag didnt say territorial and at my petsmart they where in the semi aggressive section when i bought them. i am almost 100% sure they are both females. i have pix in my albums i think i am going to the lfs today(not petsmart) and i will see if he will take one of the jacks, or both...maybe i can make him a deal, he takes 2 jack dempseys he gets a free pacu!!! lol
