will this combo of tank busters work?

If you were looking for a "pat on the back and a go ahead" with your tank your probably not going to find one on this site.
I was about to say that the dovii and amarillo tank probably didnt last long, but that was already mentioned.

Yes strange combinations of cichlids sometimes do work but on the whole you find that when the fish reach sexual maturity the become aggressive and compete for territory and females. this the problme you cant make an aggressive cichlid want to share its tank.

i have had 4" breeding texas hold a 12" jaguar cichlid at bay in a 8ft tank. so i personally dont think there bark is worse than there bite. They can be exceptionally agressive when breeding. when not breeding they are comparable to other large central americans.

if you want a big chunky aggressive cichlid why not have a pair of trimacs? nothing will survive in the tank with them when they breed but they are great fun.

the tank was going to be 8ftx2ftx2ft, but you've convinced me. I don't think it would
be big enough. I'm now thinking of two tanks 6ftx2ftx2ft with only 2 pairs per tank
and not mixing any vieja species.......sounds more realistic...... Thanks

exactly! Now best of luck and post pick as this turns to reality.

just do the carpintis, and tetrachanthus

I've come to the conclusion that the only way this would work would be to get a
monster tank (600gal or more) but even then problems might arise and I found the
cost of these tanks to be alot more than three or four smaller tanks.
It would of been nice to see these fish live together in harmony but don't think so.
The only two options I can see are to have two tanks with dividers in them (2pair per tank)but even this,
I think 6ftx2ftx2ft would be to small because you have no place for the females to retreat
to when the males get agressive.
If I had four smaller tanks say 4ftx2ftx2ft, and only one pair per tank with a divider
one foot from the end of the tank that only the female could fit through.
I think this would work.....
I've decided to go with one pair of each; Bifaciatum,Carpinte,Cuban and Labiatus..
I'll get some pics once I set it up..... Thanks for now.....
