Will this kill my plants?

Easy fix without chemicals, lights off after you remove your plants and fish if you have another tank like a quarantine. Wrap your tank with a thick bag, heavy duty garbage bag will do it, for a week all algae dies at this stage. Scrap off any remaining.

Now do your water changes on the infected tank to re cycle it. Check all the plants you took out for that algae and remove leaves that are carrying any on them.

When your ready to put plants back in your tank have your lights on 6-8 hours. Trust me I know that sucks. Also another tip is if your tank gets any sunlight you will still have an algae problem. Hence the reason for the wrap with a trash bag.

That should take care of your algae.

Nice set up by the way.

I didn't mean to give op bad advise. It's just when I had a planted discus tank, I had real high phosphate readings and my algae went crazy
I put in a phos filter pad, and all went well

Thanks I try to keep my discus happy. And my tank is in front of a Window. I live in a small apartment and that's the only place I was able to fit it. So the algae will always come back?

My 210 is in front of a double window, facing south. I'm in Milwaukee, so it gets the full blast of sunlight all day long.
My thought is , the plants should benefit over the algae, if the water parms are right

As far as sunlight goes yes, so a good trick is either see how long the sun gives you light. Then you can adjust your light timer. Or cover up your windows very well. Hope this helps your algae problem. You can always try and throw in a pleco or 2 that will stay small. Do Not buy a Common though.

I have a bristle nose pleco. The thing is that he doesn't eat algae anymore. He only goes for blood worms. can't really move the tank away from the Window. I'm thinking of selling it and just cleaning everything by hand. Or I adding chemi-pure the product in the first post. My plants grow well. Can't really complain about that. What do you guys think?

I'm always up for bigger tanks if you find one in good condition. I try to stay away from chemicals. And if you decide to keep and maintain, scrub, scrub, scrub. If you do want to completely empty your tank and have the time get baking soda you find at the store empty your tank and scrub with baking soda.

Next is vinegar regular white is fine spray and wipe clean. Empty and fill until there is no vinegar or baking soda smell. Rinse with fresh water and viola brand new tank. I do this to any tank I buy or that I find on the side of the road. Especially on my quarantine tank. It also helps keep my tank cover getting more light in. I like covers. I can post pics of what I'm talking about if your confused.

I'm going to scrub everything. I also don't like adding chemicals to my tank. And I'm probably going to give away the pleco. It only adds to the bioload. Thanks for all the help
