I will probably be building an outdoor pond here is the size, 8" long and 30 inches wide it will contain roughly 120 gallons as it will be very shallow (12 inches) the bottom will be either cement or tile. this is a monster fish pond and i will have for sure an oscar and a turtle and hope fully the following lima shovelnose, stingray, acarichthys heckelli, geophagus, uara, and a pike. how does this sound i will probably install a fountain and a filter of appropriate size. i live in brazil so it NEVER gets below 70 and 75 is rare. the substrate will be sand and their will be a lot of driftwood etc. there will also be shade. can my fish live in this or am i over looking something?

please send DETAILED responses.:irked:

lol are you sure you only want 8"es for the lenght? it may be abit short for your fishes  JK :D lol but i know you meant 8' but as you say 8' which is 96" by 30" by 12"...your getting yourself a 150 gallon...not a 120 and as for any of your fishes being together in the pond....i see no problem...just make sure you get the best filtration you can get with the money you have or just make one.But if you get a stingray into that 150 gallon pond...make sure its not one that get's too big for it...

that combo of fish in that size pond doesnt look good to me... i would consider more around a 96"x48"x24" pond..... 30" wide x12" deep isnt good for life for any of those fish

I have to agree with you on this one...;) none of the fishes he list could stay in that kind of pond or tank height of only 12"...even my smaller cichlids are already complaining with a 18" height...lol:eek: but yea he can probably keep the turtle their but his oscar is going to grow to about more 8" in its body height so he's sqeezing that pretty tight already if he wants to go any further...if he wants a pond of that height then he can only stick to fishes only stay to a close 8" but no fishes exceeding more than a foot in lenght as most get pretty tall

you have not agreed with me in the past ..... oscars and rays are not good mates and turtle might eat ray.... its all around not a good idea

I have caught lima shovelnoses in water almost exactly a foot deep i will post a pic of it. How do you know your fish are complaining about a 18" high tank? fish dont really like height that much. a turtle may eat a ray but then it may not it depends on the turtle and i have other placesto keep a turtle if it is a problem. the stingray is a smaller species.

smallest species of stingray needs a bigger size pond than that.... atleast do 8'x3'x2'

Ok guys i dont want to be a stingy beginner who thinks he knows better then everyone else or some one who doesnt care about his fish but i need to understand some things, why do my fish need height? look at my list, Shovel nose, long thin ubular fish that stays on the bottom, ray, wide in diametar but only several inches high at most, geophagus fish that loves the bottom, uara same thing. turtle spends much of its day basking out of the water, pike cichlids stay in the middle strata it is very round. the oscar is the only one that i think. a stingray NEEDS that much space? and some people put a Oscar in a footprint less than half that with no problems. (dont agree with them though.) NIC the size you listed is only six inches wider then mine and as for height show me ONE picture of a stingray at the very top of a tank! (it doesnt count if being fed. once again i dont think i know more then you guys i just cant see the logic in some of it. Thanks a bunch though :D:mwave::perv:
