well i just got a 200 gallon fish tank and wanted to add a sump..now the base is short so i cant fit my 55 gallon fish tank that i have...i want to built one out of acrylic and i know by reading a lot f diy sump u need to have certain amount of media for it to work..I came up with this since the sump i need has to be short due to my stand the highest it can be would be 14inches thats cutting it close if i want to service it..so im going with 12 inches it gives me enough clearance. so i want to make two inlets like if i had two small sumps to euqal a bigger one..it will be 60x12x16 and i mad a removable cover to slide it in the stand when its done.so let me know if it works or if you see some things that are missing.. The part where i have my fish or plant is for feeder fish..plants should help also right??will have one or two pumps..thepicture is just an example it should be the same on both sides even though it doesnt look even dont hate on the pic...hahaha

Why not just position the filter socks directly below the overflow?

Move socks over, and why would you want fish in your sump? Good chance they will be sucked into your pump. I'd say just forget the fish and add more plant a like pothos or bamboo or more bio media

The reason I put the socks there is because I thought it would silence the water but I can put it straight..my girl doesn't. Like the sound of the splashing.personally I like it. Fish. Will proobably be there for a few hours maybe day or two so when I feed my oscar its for feeder fish and I have a filter pad or sponge that will be going there just in case... but it should work right??? I can put more plant too.that's just an example...

I would throw some bubble wands under the ceramic media / bio balls and call it good!

Thats what i thought dont know much about these things but im a do it yourself kind of person..especially when it comes down to custom stuff..thanks for the help..im going to try to buy my supplies for my sump.. i will be buying my foam and cement for my diy background also....since i have the tank empty at the moment..Im going to a river float down this wed...i live like 10 minutes away from the colorado river so maybe ill find myself some driftwood...is there anything special i should be looking for???Also im going hiking this sat maybe ill find some wood too....well ill post some pictures if i find something...also im done stainig my tank and canopy....ill post some pics later also need to go change my brakes on my stang......thanks again everyone

looks good but imo i wouldnt put your feeders directly into the sump for fear of introducing whatever they might be carrying directly to your whole tank but thats just me, other than that in my little experience looks good :)

unless of course your talking about post quarantined feeders...... i cant really say much my feeder tank is doubling as a 2 inch peacock grow out tank lol

whats post quarantine feeder?? sorry new to all this new talk/Words....

well i went to HD today to do some pre shopping and compare some prices from lowes. I found almost everything i needed at HD.. think i might go with the 2inch foam sheet its only 17 buck the sheet.like a 4x8 i think it was.. the acrylic was a little expensive like 100 for a 36x72 it was the thickes one and 49 for 24x46 cant really remember but i remember that i was better to buy the two sheets instead of one because i got more...I bought to DAP aquarium silicon..had to redo my support glass in the middle its drying now... and i also checked all the pluming for my diy pvc overflows...so i have everything i need just need to get my $$$...oh and one more thing tomorrow i go to the colorado river for a floatdown...yes im going for the fun and the girlies..LOL..but also want to look for some drift wood hopefully i find some..wish me luck!!!
