  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I went to the river yesterday founnd lots of logs and good sizes too but when I was looking at them like the wood was decaying and the bark came of is it suppoosed to do that??? How can I know its good..is it cuz its soaked in water?? How can I tell which is good... thanks..

Well I haven't posted in awhile have so many projects going on..well I found out my spare tank wasn't regular glass so I busted on small side...so I will be using part. For a glass sump...my sump will be shallow one it will be 20 inches wide that's the side of the glass from my tank which will be the bottom now I have to purchase 3 sides and. Will buy some pieces for bbracing...my tank stand is 20.5 inches wide inside width so itfits perfect it willonly be 12 inches tall....I won some new 300 bioballs for 18.45 shipping included so that's a good start will post some pictures later..

Your filter supply line configuration is used in a commercial sump design to keep the sump quiet and reduce air bubbles. I like it and would keep it. It also makes the sock filters very easy to access and change!!!! Easy maintence is tops on my design list!!!

The coarse sponges seem to not be needed. They should catch some large debris from the plant and fish compartments... but I would just let the pump push this back into the aquarium then be filtered out when the debris hits the sock filter.

I might consider making the whole configuration one long linear chain instead of the two sided design you have currently. One long filtering chain instead of two filtering chains meeting in the middle seems like a more efficient design to me.

Thanks for the feed back i kind of like my sock idea i know i didnt invent it but i like it...and i will make my configuration one long linear chain i decided the other way is more supplies just cutting out a chamber ...so instead of 5 feet long it will be four..ill be using parts or my glass 55 gallon tank that broke.. i went to homedepot and purchased alot of stuff for my home,,,we had a coupon for 500 no payment so we were short on some item...My girl said why dont u get stuff for your fish tank...she didnt tell me twice...lol...so i went to get some sheets of styrofoam for my background...some 2" pipe for some overflows n some other elbows,,some silicone a vertical float switch for my sump...i couldnt find some drylok or the glass i wanted.. but its a start...i see my girl is supportive of my projects.......oh and the coarse sponges where more for preventing the fish to go to the other chambers n getting stuck there specially the pump....

has anyone bought the pond pumps from lowes??? they have one flowing 700 gph and has a built in uv light i was thinking of using one for my set up ...or maybe two..

It sounds good from the description but the reviews raise many possible problems with longevity and replacement parts / bulbs. I like the integrated UV light. It doesn't sound like you can turn off the UV if you want to run the pump without it. I like that the pump will automatically shut off if it doesn't have enough water to operate correctly! It seems like you could get a better known manufacture with a better track record for the price.

When I shop for pumps I look at the rated flow rate VS the wattage... in an effort to find an efficient pump that will minimize operating cost. Choosing a pump seems to be a bit of an imperfect science filled with more hype and marketing than empirical ongoing operational data.

I'm still undecided. I want to get my background done and run all my pipes then get a pump for my set up....that's like the last thing I'm buying but I'm looking around....that pump is close by but the bad thing like u said longevity..I seen peoples pump lasting years and some review for that pump are that bulbs go out fast.....I guess to turn of the uv u would have to take bulb out..thanks for your reply
