One problem with that type is that it's not meant for constant use. They burn out quick. Some of the newer styles are and I've been looking at them for that purpose. Just have to figure away to combine a biological filter with it and I am rocking. Til Dr. Joe comes and takes away all the fun.
Not familiar with that particular brand. Looks very similar to Tetra filters. Probably work similarly. Looked but couldn't find info on their site about the Powercleanz feature. I'm sure somebody on here will know this company.
Pressure filters are difficult to clean. The gunk collects at the bottom and therefore if you want to clean it properly you need to scoop out all the water from the filter (by hand), remove all the sponges and bio-balls and then refill with clean water. And remember that a pressure filter usually sits partially below ground and only the top quarter is exposed so you will be on your knees doing it.
The self cleaning ones - one has to reverse the intake and outtake tubes - this reverses the water flow. But you need then to vent the outtake water to your garden area - and it really doesn't work. One has to open the filter to clean it properly.
On the other hand, a box filter works by gravity. The water goes in on the top - filters thru the media and then exist thru the bottom. The gravitational filter has to be higher than your waterfall to work which makes it more difficult to hide but with proper rock work - it can be done. The key here is ease of maintenance. I want to be able to get into the filter weekly and easily clean it up or add or change the filter media - which makes the box filter a better choice.
