My idea to filter 450g monster tank is as follows, will it work?

Dia1.jpg

drains from overflow into filter a, b, c, c, d and returns via pump to spray bar at opposite end of tank from the overflow.

Filers: (aquaflow pond filters)

dia-2.jpg

D. is a empty tank to contain pump and to give extra surface area in case of power out. will properly use a second filter C but empty sat in reverse....

A couple of questions:
1. Will it work???
2. Will i need a intensection in the drain pipe, leading up to air. to silence it?
3. if i sit tank D. at the same level as filter C. can i have the inlet at same height as outlet from C.
4. What GPH should i be looking for in a pump for 450g? any recommendations???

oh yea good point i never though of that

1. Will it work???

Yes.

2. Will i need a intensection in the drain pipe, leading up to air. to silence it?

No, the boxes are vented.

3. if i sit tank D. at the same level as filter C. can i have the inlet at same height as outlet from C.

Yes, if you mean the lower one.

4. What GPH should i be looking for in a pump for 450g? any recommendations

They recommend the Aqua Max 12000, 12000ltr (2666g)/hr @ 0ft.

How effective is this system? compared to say a big sump, or £500 worth of eheim cantisters?

2 heaters in section D one in the tank as a fail safe.... thats something like i was thinging of for a monster stingray pond...

right my mum kicked off big style tonight about the size of the tank, so we agreed to compromise, and she is willing to lend me the extra money and even contribute money to get the tank the way she wants it. its not going to be the ideal tank for asain, african + sa aros, bowfins and gars but its better than most and should do ok. I'm thinking its going to be expensive!!! Acrylic is probably the material of choice due to weight and strength issues of tank tis size... It should still be a very nice tank, and filtration wise im still thinking of using the small setup stated above.

This diagram should explain the tank idea:

My mum laid down max floor space, and the fact that i was not aloud to interfere with the door frames governed the max height.
