Hi I have a iwaki pump that uses 220volts. Can I use this transformer and use my pump on a 110v outlet? Is it safe because its going to be turned on 24/7. I will plug the transformer to my electrical surge.

I would do some testing on the step down transformer to see how much heat it puts off after running it for a day or so. Most of these guys get pretty warm. Are you plugging it into a surge or into an UPS. I'd recommend a UPS like from APC or something. The battery inside the UPS is powered by your house electicity and the battery puts out "conditioned power" which is also surge protected. Might be a little overkill, but I play things safe.

running any 220 device on 110 would be a serious cost in reliabilty and power consumption. just doesnt sound good to me

sort term use is ok but it would over heat and probly start a fire so I wouldnt do it...

a true 220 is more efficient then a regular 110 but that is just asking for trouble.
