so i'm planning on buying one of those wheeled heavy duty trash cans from home depot. filling it with water, and sticking a water pump that is rated around 500-700 gph or so, connected to a 1 inch or whatever size tubing it fits and long enough so it'll reach my 120gallon aquarium from my laundry room, about 20 feet. then i'll have tubing about 8ft long, displacing water from my 120 to my yard outside.
this is so i can, somewhat have an easier method doing water changes, cause currently, i'm filling up eight five gallon buckets every water change, letting it sit for two days, and taking out water with a plastic hose to outside, and pouring the eight buckets in and refilling them every single week.
or can someone give me a better idea if they think this idea won't work.
i'm just worried that my pump won't be capable of pumping water twenty feet up and down to my 120.

the pump pumping that far is gonna be an issue

you may damage the pump i would just fill from the garden hose and prime it as you go if your big on letting water sit and dechlorinate and get right temp use a cooler with wheels on it and role it right up to your tank

You both don't have the information to draw that conclusion.

an ol' fashion sump pump would last, i think, if we're concerned
about a regular pump,..probably cheaper as well,..mine has been running in the basement for many years,..no problems,..

I would say tha your idea is definitely plausible. That is how a lot of people do water changes.

alright.
i'll be using "Quiet One Pumps, model 3000 rated at 780gph, 40 watt.
i'm going to stick that in the bottom of a trashcan and have around 20 ft of 1" vinyl hose attached to it going up the trash can and looping down to the floor and going straight up to my 120 that's about five feet high. total distance is about max 20ft.
i'm just wondering if you guys think it'll be able to pump water to that distance.
will it? or will it fail like two people have already said it probably will on this thread.
