IN YOUR HEAD
would a florida gar work in this tank? 1-silver aro(13in), 1-rope fish(13in), 2- black ghost knives(8in), 1-gold nugget pleco(4in), 8 redtail tinfoil barbs(3.5in) and 3- bala sharks(4in). i know the gar pleco deal, i just saw one at my lfs 6+in for like $25. what is the max size? if not a needlenose work?

Depends on how well you keep the gar fed. When it gets bigger and hungry it might make a meal of the barbs, but for the most part it looks like you should be ok. I am assuming you have a large tank by the size of your other fish.

Are barbs and bala's are likely to become snacks, or else they'll spook the gar into hurting itself. Also, that's a lot of fish to have to compete with for food, while the gar are kind of slow methodical eaters. It could work, you'd just have to be ok with possibly losing some fish and having to rehome someone...

the tank is 72"x24"x24" the aro might end up in my catfish pond that i will be building 6'x8'x3' with 1-tsnxrtc, 1-tsn, 1-rtc, and mabey the aro or gar or both i don't know if the gar would work in the pond or not?

is around $25 a good price if it is i will get it. if it eats some barbs or balas i'm not going to dye, in fact it might be cool to watch. i plan to have a feeder tank that i will have minnow/suckers. i'm also thinking about breeding convicts as a food sorce and catching sunfish or perch(witch will be staged in a stock tank to be sure they are not sick) from a lake by my house aswell. thanx for the info.

Your tank is large enough for the gar, you just have to keep an eye on the smaller fish when the gar gets larger. If you get the gar @ 6 inches you should have no problem with it getting spooked by other fish because it will have grown up around a variety of fish. The gar will be more than happy in a pond, however I don't know about a florida gar in a pond outside in minnesota though. I would stick to the tank and think about re-locating the smaller fish if needed. You will have a while before it becomes a problem because the gar won't kill somthing it can't swallow, *most of the time*. Sometimes they might try a fish to big for them to eat, but not often.

i should have said indoor pond, my bad:D...the concurn i had was that the cats might eat it. it would be rediculous to pay to heat that pond in sub-zero temps.
