i think the chocolate may get too big for your 55g but its worth checking. i think they get to around oscar size.

if you want the best help tailored to your needs then you really need to provide us with your filtration and setup details. as much about it as you can remember/find out. also truthful stocklists, no one will flame you for screwing up if you have it overstocked already. we have all messed up at some point. we just need the truth about what you have and the setup your wanting to newly stock or top up.

Very true. Everyone makes mistakes and at one time or another was an inexperienced beginner at this hobby. I have made my share of mistakes, but I have learned from everyone of them.

I still get the feeling that you are not being completely honest with us about your current fish. You have pictures of tons more fish and have said that you owned many more. Maybe you got rid of them, maybe you didn't. If you currently only have those 2 fish in there I think that is great. But I have a feeling you have more fish then that. Just earlier in this thread you said you only have one fish in there. Now it is 2.

If you can't honestly tell us what is going on (every fish that you have, filtration, etc) we cannot help you.

i had little geos but then they all got sick and died so now i have geophagus j and a chocolate cichlid i swear. :D And i have them in a 30 long. Today or tomorrow i will have them in my 55 gallon.

So if you have those two in their already , you cannot put more in, its not a good idea.
Are you planning on getting another tank, im sure everyone would love to help you stock that one.
Just ask opions before buying....

Sorry about your small geo's. Do you have any catfish or plecos in there?

Unfortunately both the fish you have get big. The chocolate will grow pretty fast. Within a year it should be close to 8+" and will fill out your tank nicely. Your juripari can get large also but they grow slowly. I think those 2 fish with maybe a BN pleco will be about all you need in there. I know you want to try a bunch of fish and you want your tank to look nice and busy, but trust us that in the long run you will be happier and so will your fish.

I'm almost positive his choc is already 6" plus, from his other threads.

it only 3" And i am a her.

add in a bristlenose plec to help with the algae cleaning and picking up the food scraps that sink to the bottom and you might be on to a winner for a while. be aware though, you will need to upgrade or let one go as they mature as they are both big fish and both will not fit in the 55.

what filtration will you have on the 55??

i understand what your goin thru, im startin up a tank and cant figure out exactly what i want yet either hahaha, buut u do need to understand that theres requirements for each fish and research these requirements and make reasonable suggestions cuz so far it seems like people r tired of unreasonable situations...
my suggestion is get the cichlid u want most for the tank first and then see if u can add another by askin on here, goodluck tho

thank i am getting rid of the chocolate cichlid i may hate saying good bye but i have to do what best for him.

:D:iagree: Good choice. It was for the best, they get way too big to live comfortably in a 55 gallon tank (around 12 inches or so). So what do you have in your tank now? Just the geo? or were those the ones that died?
