Is the bottom of the tank a flat piece of glass all the way across to the edges...

Or does the perimeter of the tank sit some distance lower than the flat bottom?

Manufactured acrylic tanks typically have flat bottoms with no plastic trim. This allows the weight of the tank/water to be evenly distributed across the full surface of the bottom of the tank...

Manufactured glass tanks typically have a plastic trim going around the perimeter of the tank. This allows the weight of the tank/water to be carried only by the supports below the perimter...

If your tank is supported by the perimeter, you would be best off having the full perimeter supported. I've had such tanks with a couple inches on the ends overhanging a stand (as if you were to use a 30" long stand)... but I would not do so with the front/back overhanging the stand (as if you were to use a 12" wide [front to back] stand)...

If the tank has a flat bottom with no perimeter trim... I would then be comfortable using a stand meant for a 3' x 1' tank and allowing the front and/or rear hang over a bit...

Although personally, I would put a piece of plywood between the tank and stand...

They are glass tanks so they have the plastic trim around them. I guess I will have to look into getting one custom made. Thanks. :)

Personally, I would be willing to use a 36" x 18" stand with 3/4" plywood between the tank and stand. I would paint the wood with some kind of water repellent to insure it's integrity over time...

Building (or having one built) a custom stand is also an option I would consider…

So you think the one for the 65 30/40/50 gallon breeders would work with plywood? I was wondering about that as I wasn't sure that the weight of the top tank needed to be directly over the legs of the stand or if it could sit more in the middle. If that would be safe I would prefer to do that. Like I said I just don't want any accidents in my apartment.

Since your tank is 16" wide (front to back)... and the stand is 18" wide (front to back)...

The lip on the stand will be about 1"... meaning that the outside perimeter of your tank will sit inline with the inside edge of the stand...

Using a piece of 3/4" plywood would allow the weight of the tank to bridge over to the stand with little to no concern. The concern would be the wood rotting and failing to assist in the weight transfer...

That is the caution I would take in my home...

But I should point out that I've seen tanks longer than yours supported only by the left and right sides (nothing in the middle) and they held up just fine for years and years. I would trust doing this in a room that was designed to take water on the floor without a problem (just in case), but ont in a carpeted room or a general living area...

Thanks for your help. :)

Bre,
Here is a quick draw up I did for you. If you still have questions, shoot me a PM.
