i was "sniffing" around on craigslist. came across a pc of glass bout an hr from me, "Table top is a beveled edge rectangle - 42w X 72l & heavy meant to be a patio table" the woman said its about 1/2" thick. just wanting to make sure thats plenty for my ply build. its 70x46x25. the veiwing window cutout itself is 21" x 61 3/4". hope it works, would save me a bit of money - considering i got laid off yesterday :(

Sorry about the layoff!
Glass sounds like a good find tho. Are you planning on cutting it down to your tank size?
Seems to me 1/2" glass is 1/2" glass if you know what I mean. Did you verify that it is clear and not tinted and that it is not tempered?

Agree.. Make sure it is not tempered because it is much harder to cut down to size. There is a build with round windows because he used round table tops I believe.

Sorry about the layoff. This economy sucks. We need to begin to manufacture in this country again. Good luck with the glass, and the Job Hunt. I'll pray that it does not take long for you.

she didn't know if it was tempered or not, im guessing its not since its for a patio and kinda made to take abuse in a since. it is clear tho. yeah i'll have to cut it down to size since my tank is pretty much built, actually just did the framing for the window today. need to post pics of that. i also found a 7' x4' x 1" thick pc of glass for free :headbang2but they didnt post a phone number only an email and haven't got back to me yet.:( it came off a kitchen table so i can only assume its not tempered either. i hope they email me back sayin they got it. thats a 2000 dollar pc of glass. i dont have a use for it but ill put it away till i decide to build a tank to fit it. being 1" thick glass. i could probably build something along the lines of 2,000+ gallons i would think.:headbang2:headbang2

if i dont build with it ill sell it for about 1500 or something

yeah john i seen that build. was pretty impressive. if i did round glass i would HAVE to put big bolts and stuff around the glass and give it that pirate theme. would be a must lol

I dont suppose you live in east tn by chance do you?

I kinda figured from the cl post similarity to what I've seen locally.

I could be wrong, but I would imagin that they are tempered since they tank abuse. They dont want them to go and shatter into sharp pieces incase of an accident. I very well could be wrong, however I would be sure find out before you try to cut it.

I've found that table tops are rarely ever tempered, especially thick ones. Believe me I've broken enough during moves to find out.lol
