First off would like to say Hi to everyone....This is my first time posting here. I've been lurking for about a month..:popcorn:reading all the threads

I have a (finally cycled..:headbang2) 110 long gallon tank......It will be home to am Oscar. I had 2 about 7 years ago and had to give them up because I was moving.....they went to a great home and are still alive and well living in 250 gallon tank. ( it turned out they were a bredding pair so they have the entire tank to themselves)

So with this tank I would like to get 1 oscar but would like to have other fish in it. I'm not a fan of the silver dollars. The one's I've seen are always sickly looking, fins missing, miss shaped and just not healthy looking.

So I was wondering if a Gourami would work with the oscar. I would get the Gourami fist and let it grow a little before getting the oscar and them get the oscar. My LFS sells 2in oscars so getting one small would not be a problem.

If a Gourami doesn't work does anyone have any ideas as to what will so with an oscar other than the SD.

thanks

Lori

A few people on here have been using Tiger Barbs with sucess. Try about 7 or 9 they should look good.

that was fast!!!! lol

I'd like to see if the gourami would work first, I like the way they look but if it can't be done I won't do it. I've read were someone on another site put them together but have not be able to talk to them to see how it worked out.

Then try it, see what happens there is no reason why it wouldn't work that I can think of, other than they might not be fast enough to escape an attack but if the O is rased with them it might no bother them too much.

Welcome to MFK!

thanks! i'm thinking I might, hope the oscar doesn't eat them.....o at least waits until I'm not around..lol

the blue or gold....I know not to get the dwarf and the gaints get HUGE from what I read. The ones that I have read up on get to be about 6inches.

I have seen the blues and golds kept with Oscars before. So it could work, I would try to find the largest gouramis I could to lessen the chance of becoming a snack. GL

yah I was going to buy the Gourami first....let them grow a little and then get the smallest ocsar I could find. need to see how fast Gourami's grow, then decide what I'm going to do. I really do like the look of them but I love oscar's and that is what I got the tank for.

Thanks for all your imput. Will have to post pics when I do get my fish.

I would buy the oscar as small as possible to ensure that he has not been conditioned to eating feeders. That will greatly increase the chance of success in keeping the oscar with gouramis. Also get the gouramis at least 1.5 times larger than the oscar.
