Will This Work??

Hello, so after much consideration, I have decided that I am going to get a royal pleco. I will put him in my 55 (only temporarily will probably be in a 150 by summer time), but I also have a gold spot pleco. I want the Royal for looks more than algae cleaning service. The Gold Spot does not do the best job and when I visited my LFS today, I realized they got much bigger than I thought. In a tank were 2 13 in+ gold spots. I know the Royal gets to be about 16, but since its so beautiful in my eyes, I can handle this. Will the Royal and the Gold Spot fight? Or will they get along? If needed I will get rid of the Gold Spot because as I said earlier, it doesn't do its job.

I have all different groups of plecos in my 150gallonn right now and there is no fighting just the ocaasonal scuffle nothing big they should be ok in ur tank
 
What type of other fish you planning to keep with it?
The two plecos will be fine together.

The thing you should be concerned about is diet. Royals should be fed as little meaty protien based foods as possible. Soft woods and vegetables should make up it's whole diet with the occasional meaty pellet or chunk of filet.
If you're going to keep it with fish that you feed lots of protien pellets or frozen foods you might want to consider another pleco. You could run into heth issues down the road with the royal if it's diet is not watched carefully.
IMO they are best kept in species only tanks or with fish that can thrive on the same type of diet.
 
Well it would be with 3 Bala's and 3 Tin Foil Barbs, but I feed those flakes. I have wood in the tank, and can easily feed them vegetables every night. Nutrition isn't the issue, so from what I'm hearing, they should be alright together, so thanks for the responses guys
 
Royals can get 22-24" and eat TONS of wood. Just something to consider. Filtration needs to be able to deal with vast amounts of waste from this fish. Wood is not very nutritious and they go through alot of it so monumental filtration is a must.
 
Ya I realize they eat a ton of wood and I am prepared to handle this and my filtration will be strong enough to handle it
 
I have 2 royal's with my goldspot, and they have no issues. And as far as the royal getting huge...it will take years. They are very slow growers.
 
Thank you and ya I know their small growers which should give me some time to get a HUGE tank
