I honestly never worry about those, I keep my water stable through good and frequent maintenance and my fish are always healthy and I almost never have any fatalities. There’s no right or wrong, this is just my philosophy and it’s served me well for a long timeWhen I was talking about hard vs soft, Im talking about GH and TDS values, not acidic vs basic PH
I think you should get what you really want, I live in Phoenix and we have notoriously hard water and I’ve had no issues keeping anything I’ve attempted. I know I go against the grain with this but I believe stable parameters are what’s important and when people get into trouble with chemistry is when they start messing with it. Do your maintenance, keep those nitrates down and you should be fine with all but the most sensitive fish. The only fish I’ve had trouble keeping are corys. Everything else has been fineYa I have extremely hard water so a congo biotope might be best which sucks because I really wanted those archers lol
so this is my new stocking idea
2 x del
3 x Brown knife
6-10 x congo tetra
1-2 ctenopoma (maybe Im not a big fan of them)
Some sort of spiny eel colony of smaller eels or 1-2 large ones I really like M, Dayi But not from the congo sadly
and maybe odeo pike but I think it would out grow the 75g
-Iwouldlove a group of tetraodon schoutedeni but dont think it will happen
alternate stocking 2.0
im thinkin maybe a African Biotope not just congo
4-6 x Altolamprologus calvus
3-4 smaller spiny eels
congo tetra
2 x Del
So let me know
still bummed about those archers but I want the best life for my fish
and lets not let Duanes see this thread He will have a fit when he sees the first stocking list lol
It’s your call, but IMO criticism shouldn’t effect your choices with this or anything else. Use outside opinions as a guide and make your own Choices. I’ll stop the preaching now lol good luck and let us know what you decide onJ Joshuakahan I would love to go with my original stocking but im not looking forward to the criticism I might get for having such a mixed tank so I might go biotope anyone know if a 75g is ok for a odeo long term?
oh just though of another stocking
2 x del
1 x black spot eel
3-5 x Burmese archers
This is were I will be getting the majority of my fish so have a look and let me know what you would do keep in mind I already have the bichirs

+1 to all of thisI actually agree with this, even though i like the congo biotope idea you should really get what you want. Criticism for doing something stupid like keeping frotosas and discus together is a bit different to criticism for keeping fish with similar needs but from different parts of the world together. Personally i prefer biotopes these days but wouldnt get too uptight about other people not liking them either.
Its your tank, as long as you arent beiing cruel or doing something too stupid i doubt anyone will worry, and really why do you care if they do? The only thing i find irritatting is if someone does the exact opposite of what they were advised, act cocky about it then come asking for help when it goes wrong. That annoys everyone.
Use the experience and advice you get from member such asduanes , they are an invaluable resource but at the end of the day its your tank, you are young and learning so do what you want (within reason)
