My canister filter sprung a leak in my 75 so I turned it off. Will two powerhead having enough filtration to last me a few days before I can fix the leak?

Are there sponges attached to the intake of the powerheads?
If not, what is left in the tank for bio-filtration?

Powerheads will keep the water circulating but won't provide filtration (right?).

I also recommend placing the bio-media from the canister into the tank

Every single surface in the tank...

We all say "bacteria grows on everything"... but why don't we believe it?

The media is already dead. I powered off the canister last night right before bedtime. There are no sponges attach to the powerhead. There are two pieces of big driftwoods so hopefully there are some bio there.

If you turned the filter off last night... then the tank has been well over 12 hours without the assistance of the bacteria in the filter...

Can you test your 75 gal aquarium for ammonia right now?

Should be fine depending on the stock. Is it heavily stocked?

If the ammonia is at zero now... that means

A) the bulk of the bacteria was living in the aquarium, not the filter... What kind of media is/was in the canister?

B) The doubling rate of the bacteria is high enough so that any "mini cycle" that took place was inconsequential... and

C) There is ample "surface area" in the aquarium to support a healthy bacterial colony without any assistance from the canister filter... knowing this would encourage me to use that canister on that tank for something besides "Bio Filtration"...

I have to step out for the day so I couldn't follow the conclusion... but I'm interested to read how it turns out...

Good luck, agreed it sounds like your bacteria is in your tank and not the filter, if so you should be fine
