I'd say go buy an AC HOB www.kensfish.com www.bigalsonline.com then you have one backing up the other!

Why... if the ammonia currently tests zero... the powerheads are enough... and he already has the canister... just needs to fix the leak...

If the ammonia is not at zero he needs a quick fix, not waiting a week for delivery...

keep the powerheads for circulation and add a airpump or two... and do daily water changes...

Wouldn't it make a lot mroe sense to suggest "monitor water quality"... it's much easier for most of us to test for ammonia/nitrite than it is to do a water change...

...and it is very likely that the water quality is fine...

yes, the tank has been running on two powerhead for twelve hours. I took a quick glance before leaving for work this morning and am still at work. The water is clear and fish are still alive. I'll run a test for ammonia tonight and will try to fix the leak. Tank is mildly stock but powerheard is a koralia 1 and a maxijet 1200.

The filter is an Eheim Pro II 2026 with Eheim media.

nc_nutcase- We all hear & understand your point about the surface area available for BB in the tank. However, until this guy posts up an ammonia reading of zero after 12 to 20 hours of p-head only filtration, your opinion has no more merit than anyone else's. Everyone prefers their particular method, but in the last few months your posts have become more condescending(sp?) & much less helpful. You have a vast amount of experience to share, so help us out with something other than your crusade against bio-media. Love ya Buddy....! Stoppit! Play nice in the sandbox.

I did an ammonia test tonight and to my surprise it came out zero. It appears that the bio in the tank and the combination of the powerheads was enough to get by. I also slap so silicone on the UV as a temporary fix. This will prevent the leak from the canister to the UV until I have more time to figure out a permanent fix.

Im new and learning as much as I can, I think Nc has to keep smashing it in to everyones mind to get them to understand better. He just saved this guy from buying a filter(which was suggested) and saved him the time of a assload of water changes(which was suggested).

Everyone does have different ways and suggestions but I think he is trying to get a point acrossed "DONT GO OUT AND JUST BUY SOMETHING"
Check things first and understand why then check the easy or non costly stuff first.

NC_NUTCASE IS VINDICATED!!!!!!! I gotta admit I wasnt sure he'd be right this time, but there you go. Dangit, now he's gonna be all "I told you so" & crap, huh? Alright nutcase...you earned it.
