i have a glass pice that holds up the light for my aquram. It never tuches the water when i clean it i use water but it takes forever could i use windex

Try using a mixture of distilled water and vinegar. The vinegar will disolve any minerals and is non toxic. Just do a final rince wtih tap water and dry off. Windex has ammonia and if rinced well should pose little problems but could give you some ammonia in your water if any residue is left over and condensation drips back into your tank.

Here is a thread from a while ago abotu cleaning solutions

I tried the water and vinegar mixture and found it to be just as good if not better than windex. But as long as you don't get any of the spray from Windex in the water, you should be fine.

Windex even over the water could cause Problems IMO as as condensation will end up on the glass an end up dripping back in (if the top is on tight). Id try an find some of this glass cleaner http://pythonproducts.com/cleaners.htm

Ive used all of them an had no trouble of fish deaths (from the two that can be used with a set up tank).
